Sinalela is a fa’afafine retelling of Cinderella. Fa‘afafine (in the manner of a woman) is an identity defined relationally in Samoa which is often glossed as transgender or gay, despite its specificity. The film’s narrative voice-over rewrites the well-known fairytale through a new queer lens with the inclusion of Indigenous folktales.
