Ode to the Centaur considers the intersection of Chinese history and queer identities otherwise hidden from public view. The film centralizes representations of the centaur in ancient mythology, exploring how the horse-human hybrid can be used to question limited views of masculinity in present day China.

Director Bio
Chenshuo Xu is a Chinese director and digital artist. His practice deconstructs identity through fashion narratives, combining fashion media with digital installation to re-examine gender stereotypes. Drawing on myths and folklore from different cultures, Xu reinterprets ancient stories through a contemporary lens, using multiple media to explore new forms of masculinity within modern mythologies.
