Queer East is an LGBTQ+ festival that showcases queer cinema from East and Southeast Asia to audiences in the UK. Screening compelling, authentic work made by international filmmakers and diaspora communities, the festival exists to amplify the voices of Asian communities and explore the queer landscape in contemporary Asia.

We are looking for films and artists’ moving image works made by, or that are about, LGBTQ+ people in East or Southeast Asia, or diaspora communities. There are no restrictions on running time, language, and premiere status, and we welcome directors, cast members, and crew of all nationalities.

We embrace a wide spectrum of definitions of LGBTQ+, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual, pansexual, queer, trans, non-binary, intersex, genderqueer, two-spirit and people with non-heterosexual identities. We also pay attention to films which challenge conventional norms of gender, sexual activity and family relationships.

If you wish to have your film considered for our 2022 edition, please visit our FilmFreeway page for more details and deadlines.

The third edition of Queer East Film Festival is currently planned for May 2022 in physical settings; due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the exact dates and format are subject to change.
