Often cited as India’s first openly queer film, BOMgAY uses an anthology format to explore queer life within the dense textures of Bombay city. Each section is accompanied by poems by R. Raj Rao and shot guerrilla-style with members of Bombay’s gay community, embodying a radical, DIY mode of early queer image-making in India.

Director Bio
Born into the pioneering Wadia Movietone family in India, Riyad Vinci Wadia was an independent filmmaker based in Bombay. He is remembered as a fearless and spirited individual; he was out as a gay man in the early 1990s when this identity could have put him at legal risk. Wadia passed away in 2003, but his influence is felt on the LGBTQ+ movement in India to date.
