ExpandedPay What You Can

Diwata is a performance for camera, exploring precolonial Philippine mythology from a contemporary, ecotransfeminist lens. Engaging with notions of gender and ecology through a spiritually anitist lens (anito being the locally specific nature spirits), Diwata introduces three manifestations of the divine: Dalikmata, Magindara and Tara, who appear in three different ecologies of Mindanao.

Director Bio

Ram Botero (she/her) is a Filipina transdisciplinary artist whose films and performances weave history, reclaiming mythology and gender as acts of resistance. Her work tethers the present to the past, holding space for what was erased, what endures, and what remains to be imagined.

Giulia Casalini (she/they) works across curation, performance, writing and research. Their (eco)transfeminist and queer activism creates and bridges communities across the globe through arts and nature. They have recently completed a PhD exploring queer-trans-feminist performance art from transnational and anti-colonial perspectives.
