The film follows the journey of a queer choir in Nanjing. From initial recruitment to their first performance, the story of New Jump offers a lens to observe how current social and cultural situations affect a small queer community. What should a queer choir in China look like?
Zai Xu is currently an MPhil student in Sociology at University of Cambridge, conducting research about queer communities and queer kinship in China. He is interested in adopting visual methods in ethnography and demonstrating his sociological observation by documentary.
Sisi Wang is an MA student in Documentary Studies at the Communication University of China. Sisi is interested in films and all kinds of visual arts, and also in using visual practice to approach social issues.
