“Good girls go to heaven, but bad girls go everywhere,” so goes the mantra of Choi Hyun-sook, the first openly lesbian candidate to run for the South Korean national assembly. Over the course of her 14-day election campaign, she romps about the streets of Jongno while canvassing, singing, and performing drag with her small but dedicated team. Following the party through passionate debates and clashes with the police alike, the film envisions a participatory politics by and for marginalised communities, where the fight for LGBTQ+ rights is inseparable from other struggles. Whether they win or lose the election, Choi and her supporters certainly have the time of their lives.
